I would first like to take this opportunity to say “thank-you” for visiting our website. This web page is a dedication and celebration to our beloved companions that we have been so privileged to have shared our lives with us.

Great Pyrenees is to love and want one always."--Mary Crane

Background Information

Puppy buyers should know who they are dealing with so here's a bit of background information on who we are!

My husband Joe and I have been married since 1990 and live on 4 ½ acres in Ocean County, New Jersey. We live in what is referred to as part of the “Jersey Shore”.   Joe is an A-Journeyman Electrician in NYC and a proud member of the IBEW Local Union #3. I am a retired Administrator for a 256 Bed Psychiatric Facility and spend most of my time with our wonderful companions and keeping up the home. Our family consists of our companions,  Pyrs -  Chatty, Benny, Jack, Madison, Sonny, Annie, and our Mix, Weenie, and Puss the Killer Cat. We are unable to have children but have been blessed with such wonderful companions.

 How we began

We saw our first Great Pyrenees in a Pet Shop and immediately fell in love. At that time we could not afford the puppy but were determined to some day own one. We met a family who lived down the road from our previous home in Brick who had Great Pyrenees! That family was Barbara and Bob Bowes.

They introduced us to Nancy and Whit Coombs of Maranatha Great Pyrenees where we obtained our first Pyrenees, “Murphy”. However, this did not come easy – Nancy grilled us for quite some time and even double checked with Barbara regarding “who and how we were” before agreeing to sell us a puppy. This indicated to us the utmost dedication and love for this breed that she and Whit have and immediately gained our respect.

We were so pleased with Murphy that we decided to get her a companion. We wanted a companion first but would like to have a dog we could show as well. November of 1994 Gunner joined our family.

Through these two dogs our lives have changed for the better. We (like so many) geared our family life around our dogs. The move to 4 ½ acres, sports car to caravan and so on and so on. Vacations consist of dog shows and places where we could take the dogs.

Our interest in breeding began after the arrival of Gunner. After much encouragement from his breeders and other respected breeders Gunner would become our Foundation Stud Dog. Hence the kennel name Blue Steel Great Pyrenees (Ch. Maranatha’s Cold Blue Steel).

In 2000 we wanted to outcross to bring in a mix of the bloodlines. We obtained a beautiful female named Chatty (Rivergroves Pardon Me Boys). She hails from another famous kennel, Rivergroves Great Pyrenees. Again, another exceptional breeding program owned by Jean Boyd of Maryland. Chatty has been a pleasure owning us and easily fit into our family. It is with the hope that Chatty will become our foundation brood bitch.

It is an exciting time for us here at Blue Steel Great Pyrenees – with the support and advice of the above friends, we hope to be able to extend the happiness of owning a healthy well bred Great Pyrenees to other families to enjoy and cherish.

Special Thanks

To Nancy and Whitney, our mentors and dear friends, we consider ourselves very fortunate to have become part of their lives and own their exceptional dogs.  Extra special thanks to Nancy for the past 12 years of listening to all the Murphy and Gunner stories and now Chatty’s!

To Jean and Wayne Boyd for allowing us “pick of the litter” and entrusting us with an outstanding girl. Thank you for all your help and kindness – we appreciate it very very much!!!!

To both Maranatha and Rivergroves
We can never thank them enough for all that they have done but I hope that with this web page it is in some small way a display of gratitude that we pay such tribute to their dogs that we own.
